WKA Northeast Sprint Series

July 2, 2009

(Updated Information Highlighted in Red)

Oswego Speedway: The finishes for the Oswego Speedway event are now posted. Season-to-date point standings are also posted. These point standings are for the GVKC/Cherry Valley/Oswego Challenge Series.

As was announced in the drivers meetings, competitors will receive 25 bonus points for the events at Avon and Cherry Valley, and 50 bonus points for the event at Oswego Speedway. Although competitors may count four finishes out of the five events, the bonus points will count for all five events. Competitors will score Challenge Series points whether they are regular or temporary WKA members.

WKA Transfer Points will be based on finishes in the competitors' classes. However, for WKA Transfer Points, competitors who are not WKA will not accumulcate transfer points.

Avon: The next event will be July 24 and 25 at the GVKC track in Avon, New York. Event information and a pre-entry form are now posted.

Cherry Valley Date Change: The last event of the 2009 season has been rescheduled from September 18 and 19 to September 4 and 5. This is due to a conflict with a CKI event.

Revised Starting Position Procedure and Laps: At the request of our competitors we have revised our qualifying and race procedure. As before we will run two eight lap heats. Starting positions in the first heat will be based on a random draw done at registration. Starting positions in the second heat will be inverted from the first heat. The average finish in the two heats will determine the starting position in the final. The change is that in case of ties, we will use the random draw as the tie breaker.

The final events will be 12 laps for 4-cycle and 15 laps for 2-cycle classes. Because we are running all classes on Saturday, we may have to make adjustments. However, it worked well at Avon and Cherry Valley, and we were done at both events before 5:00 PM.

If there are any more questions, please E-mail them to dan@dmstowell.com. If they are of interest to everyone, we'll post the answers here.

Bumpers: We've had a couple of E-mail questions that many of you may also have. First, as you know WKA is requiring wider bumpers on sprint karts running CIK bodywork. The bumpers must cover between half and all of the rear tires. CIK homologated bumpers are also legal. However, in Divisional Series such as the WKA NESS the bumper rule will not be applied this year. That gives everyone plenty of time to either get a CIK homologated bumper or a tubular steel bumper. And the rule does not apply to 4-cycle karts running WKA bodywork.

Entry Fees: In recognition of the tight economy and to encourage the highest participation possible the WKA Northeast Sprint Series Board of Directors has made a significant reduction in pit pass and entry fees. As of now they have been reduced to correspond to those fees changed in the 2008 Challenge Series. Each class entered will be $20. One day pit passes will be $15 and two day passes will be $20.

Because the entry fee has been reduced to this level, we will not be able to provide a pre-entry discount. However, pre-entries will be available for convenience. Click on the Avon PE button on the left to download a pre-entry form. In order to reduce costs we will also elimiinate event awards. An award fund will be established and either cash or trophies will be presented at the year end banquet.
